What is the source of funding for the IDOT/DTS grants
program?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides
most of the funding for the grants program. Matching funds
are provided by state appropriated funds and in some cases
by local matching funds.

When can you apply for grants for the upcoming fiscal year?
Applications will be available December 2011 for the Federal
Fiscal Year 2013 (FFY 2013).

How does IDOT/DTS advertise they are accepting applications
for the upcoming fiscal year?
A postcard is sent to every police agency and health
department in the state of Illinois which includes the IDOT
website and the dates applications will be accepted. A
notification is sent via email to all past recipients. Grant
managers for IDOT/DTS notify current grantees with the same
information.

What is the due date for submitting the FFY 2013 grant
application?
February 1, 201

Once we download and complete an application, what do we do
next?
1. An electronic copy should be sent in Word format to
DOT.TrafficSafetyReports@illinois.gov

What forms are used to apply for a grant?
The TS60 or TS 65(STEP applicants ONLY) forms.

How does IDOT/DTS choose what applications are approved?
After the application is reviewed by a grant manager
familiar with the specific program, the grant is then
reviewed by the assigned program manager (ie., Bike/Ped,
Occupant Protection, Alcohol, etc.). The Highway Safety Plan
Committee evaluates recommendations from both the grant and
the program manager. After a thorough review, the chosen
grants are compiled in the highway safety plan. This
document must be approved by the Governor’s Highway Safety
Representative.

What expenditures are allowed when applying for a grant?
Each grant program has different expenditures eligible for
reimbursement. Guidelines and specifications are included
with each application.

What are the specific dates for the FFY 2013 grant
period?
FFY 2013 begins October 1, 2012 and concludes September
30, 2013.
